Angela Sweeney is married to former Boston Bruin, and current Executive Director of the Boston Bruins Foundation, Bob Sweeney. Parents of three boys, all of whom are hockey players, provides for a fulfilling and busy life! As I am also married to a former pro player and raising a young hockey fanatic, Angela and I chatted about the approach to her boys playing hockey. Her husband was still playing while the boys were very young and watched their father play. The boys loved it on their own and came to the game naturally. Angela shared that Bob always does sort of a pre-season “gut check” with the kids, telling them that it is not important to he and Angela if the boys play hockey – more important that they want to do it and enjoy it for themselves. Bob has coached all of his boys at one point or another, and Angela plays the crucial role of Hockey Mom. What she loves about it is that it keeps the boys healthy and active, and provides a sense of community and a common denominator for the family. The Sweeney boys play on travel clubs, which makes for great friendships and camaraderie, in addition to their school classmates.
